Anurag Basu, the famous director of Barfi was suffering from acute promyelocytic leukemia. It is a type of blood cancer. The disease started appearing in 2004. But he fought it with bravery even when doctors predicted that his chances of survival were less than 50%. During that tough time, he even had written the scripts of Life in a Metro and Gangster, and directed some parts of Tumsa Nahi Dekha from the hospital. Finally, he came out of the danger.
9. Mumtaz
The legendary actress Mumtaz started her career as a child star from the movie, Sone ki Chidiya. She had given up acting at the age of 26 because she was suffering from breast cancer. Regardless of the fact that she was suffering from such a dangerous disease, she continued her battle against it, and finally got completely cured at 54.

She is remembered as Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) spoilt sister, Amy Green, from the popular sitcom Friends. Christina Applegate is a famous actress of America. She had undergone double mastectomy (removal of breasts) when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Luckily, her cancer was detected in the early stages, so she had to opt for mastectomy. She has inherited these genes from her mom. This lady was lucky to had been cured timely, unlike her mother.
7. Devika Bhojwani
Devika Bhojwani is the vice president of Women’s Cancer Initiative. She also fought breast cancer before this initiative. During her treatment, she remained positive, and was able to heal herself using reiki and chants. Her disease was found to exist at the early stages when she found a sign for mammography in a hospital and decided to take it.

Yuvraj Singh is another famous celebrity who fought cancer. He also suffered from cancer and underwent treatment in an American hospital. He won the battle against this deadly disease, which is known as malignant tumor or seminoma.

About two years ago, the Bollywood actress, Manisha Koirala, was admitted in a city hospital. After some tests, it was found that this 42-year-old lady is having ovarian cancer. Her treatment was started in New York and she continued her fight against the disease. After her chemo sessions, she came back to India. Now she is almost healed.

Lisa Ray is a famous fashion model and flop Bollywood actress. To get fame, she donned a high-cut swimsuit for a commercial. This lady was diagnosed for multiple myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells) in 2009. Lisa continued fighting against cancer with courage, and kept on sharing her recovery reports with the fans. She has now completely cured, and got married in California.
3. Kylie Minogue
Australian pop singer, Kylie Minogue, was starred in the song ‘Chiggy Wiggy’ in Blue. Kylie was diagnosed for breast cancer in 2005. At that time Kylie was on a concert tour. After her treatment, she made a comeback with Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour. This lady fought with the disease with bravery, and was even awarded an honorary Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) degree by Anglia Ruskin University, UK.

Barbara Mori made her Bollywood debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites.The film didn’t go well and was flop, but Barbara remained in news due to her affair with Hrithik. She was diagnosed for cancer in its early stages. Now she is completely alright, and has been seen in a documentary 1 a Minute where she talked about her disease and her fight against it.

Cynthia Nixon is famous for her portrayal of the character Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City. This hot lady was diagnosed for breast cancer in 2006 during a mammogram. She chose to let the world know about her disease, and did a television show in 2008. Then, this lady was diagnosed. She is the ambassador of Susan G Komen for the Cure, which is an organization of USA.
