10. Leclerc

The Leclerc is France’s main modern tank. It holds a 120 mm tank gun which can hold 40 rounds. The secondary weapon is the 12.7 mm coaxial type machine gun or a M2HB which can hold as many as 1,100 rounds and a 7.62 mm machine gun which will carry 3,000 rounds. It is truly a force to be reckoned with.

The modern tank that Israel holds dear is the Merkava. There have been many rebuilds attempting to make this tank as strong as possible and the Merkava Mark IV could perhaps be their solution. Its main feature is the 120 mm MG 253 smoothbore gun which is fully capable of using LAHAT-ATGM which is a laser guidance system. This is backed up by its 12.7 mm and 7.62 mm machine guns as well as 12 smoke grenades.

Pakistan produced this modern tank and gave it a smoothbore 125 mm gun with an auto loader. It can fight both night and day thanks to night vision. The secondary guns include a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft gun as well as the 7.62 mm coaxial type machine guns.

The cool part is, you get all this in a small little package of 46.5 tons and about 31 feet long.

3. Type 99

China’s contribution to heavy armor modern tanks is perhaps the Type 99 though it is perhaps also one of the more expensive and therefore chosen less often than other, more economical types. It weighs in a 54 tons. Its primary weapon is the 125 mm smoothbore and this is backed up by its 12.7 commander’s and the 7.62 mm coaxial style machine guns. Anyone who wants to bring this baby home will have to fork over about 2,500,000 USD.

2. K2 Black Panther

Korea’s newest and best modern tank is perhaps the 60 ton K2 Black Panther which went into production in 2009. It is approximately 32 feet long and 7 feet tall. Its primary guns are the 120 mm 55 caliber smoothbore gun and one 7.62 mm coaxial type machine gun.

1. M1a2 Abrams

The United States has perhaps the best modern tanks for itself now and it has been in service since 1980. It has had several renovations over the course of its lifespan and has become the M1a2 Abrams. It has improved armor over other modern tanks, up-to-date electronics and protection for its military crew that cannot be beat.

It is 8 feet tall, 12 feet wide and a whapping 67.6 short tons. It also offers one .50 caliber M2HB MG and two machine guns known as the M240 which offer back up for the 120 mm M256 smoothbore cannon.
